Abstract
Raman spectroscopy is a non-destructive analysis technique that provides detailed information about the molecular composition and structure of matter. It is used to measure the range information of the target gases such as water vapor in the atmosphere by utilizing a pulsed laser source with high peak power and narrow beam divergence. In this paper, I discuss principles, systems and application examples of Raman spectroscopy. Particularly, Raman lidar measurements of water vapor were reported to improve the per- formance of numerical weather prediction models.
